Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
Well, I think a held item activates the new Mega Pokemon, so despite their increased stats, they may end up weaker than their non-Mega formes. They also have to contend with the lack of a boosting item (e.g. Choice items, Life Orb, Gems, Expert Belt, plates), Leftovers, or Focus Sash, which could hurt them in the long run. Adaptability MegaLucario, Huge Power Steel / Fairy MegaMawile, and Magic Bounce MegaAbsol do sound quite appealing though.

Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
A few confirmed details regarding the Mega Pokemon:
- Mega Mewtwo has Insomnia as its ability.
- Mega Blaziken has Speed Boost as its ability and requires a Blazikenite to mega-evolve.
- Mega Lucario has Adaptability as its ability and requires a Lucarionite to mega-evolve. It has an increased Attack stat.
- Mega Mawile has Huge Power as its ability as well as increased Defense and Special Defense stats. Its typing was changed from Steel to Steel / Fairy.
- Mega Absol has Magic Bounce as its ability as well as an increased Attack stat.
- Mega Ampharos has Mold Breaker as its ability and its typing was changed from Electric to Electric / Dragon. It also got a fabulous new hairstyle.
- Mega Kangaskhan gains a new ability in Parental Bond, which allows it to hit twice in one turn. The baby Kangaskhan seems to be the focus of this mega-evolution.

No, just kidding... and... the region is named Kalos? Kalos in Greek means "Nice" or "Good" and many other positive words. Better the game be positive... or else we'll kill you. With axes and spears, through the Internet network. That's how it works right? Well, I hope in the future I can send real life knives to people through the Internet... at 1000 kilometers per hour...

Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
I'd say that of all the new Pokemon, the one that immediately seems the most dangerous is Malamar. Even though its stats are only 80/100/90/70/60/70 (according to Smogon), it has the ability Suction Cups and a move that completely inverts stat changes in the target. Assuming it holds a focus sash (which it probably should given its rather poor special bulk) Scrafty, Salamence, Haxorus, Gyarados, Cloyster, Sigilyph, Arceus, and any other boosting set will need entry hazard support.
Oh, and Whimsicott is Fairy now. Haxorus is doomed.

I'd say the weather change hurts normal in-game play but greatly improves competitive play. Gen V was almost always weather or Haxorus.

Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
Mmkay. From playing this game, the most dangerous threat it brings is Aegislash. Seriously. This thing is a defensive behemoth and a nearly unstoppable juggernaut, all thanks to King's Shield and Stance Change, which shifts its defenses and offenses. I've gotten many a sweep both in-game and on Showdown! just by bringing Aegislash in and setting up as the opponent panics. Honestly, I don't know if any other new Pokemon with a base stat total lower than 680 (aside from several of the mega evolutions, Greninja, Sylveon, and Zygarde) has what it takes to match Aegislash in utility and overall consistency.

Really? Aegislash just seems like a push over to me. I've yet to have a bad problem with one, and most the ones I've faced (on PO) just get stomped o.o

Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
From the few PO battles I've done in gen 6 here's what I've found:
Talonflame is a rather big threat with Gale Wings and STAB Brave Bird.
Aegislash has massive potential, but all three that I've faced were torn apart by my Whimsicott.
Hawlucha, despite its average stats, is rather good with Unburden, Flying Gem, and STAB Acrobatics.
Sylveon is surprisingly good. I run a heavy special wall with Reflect to cover both sides.
Malamar is far less effective overall than I originally thought, but in the right situation it's still great.
Zygarde, as of last night, was not Ubered yet (as far as I saw). I also didn't battle against any. The only thing I could see it being good at is beating Talonflame.
I saw a Diggersby. It had Swords Dance and Quick Attack. Add Huge Power and STAB EQ and it has potential in lower tiers.
Mega Gengar has not been as effective as its stats and ability would indicate.
Edit with in-game stuff:
I beat the Elite Four recently (I think 2 days ago) with Slurpuff, Goodra, Malamar, Trevenant, Xerneas, and Mega Gengar. I had a rather easy time. Now I'm going through the E4 again, with Zygarde and Mega Mewtwo X instead of Gengar and Trevenant. Mega Mewtwo X is insane offensively.
I started berry fields recently too. I have yet to get any mutations.
My Slurpuff is my highest level at around 81. I think that officially makes me awesome.
Flamethrower is in a strange place (not saying where in case anyone wants it to remain unspoiled).
The "rain" requirement for Sliggoo to evolve requires natural rain, not Rain Dance rain.
Another edit with more PO stuff:
I've started trying a Trick Room team. Mesprit and Mega Mawile together tear through a lot of teams.
Both Eelektross and Mega Mawile have a pretty easy time with Aegislash.
Klefki is a perfect Trick Room Counter. It is like Whimsicott in that it can totally control the pace of the game.
Smeargle is less useless in XY. I'm not sure why, but it seems to be more effective at setting up Trick Room and entry hazards than it was before.
Galvantula generally means your opponent is running an offensive team, and first turn is very likely to use Stick Web (which is beneficial to opposing Trick Roon teams).
I saw a sun team that included Ninetails, Venusaur, and Charizard. So weather isn't completely dead.
Next I'm going to try a hyperoffense team with Aegislash, Mega Blaziken (still not Ubered), and a few others.
Also, I battled against someone who had a Zygarde. Not too much trouble.

I'm a bit hesitant to post this as it's still unconfirmed, but:
- Spoiler:
3 new Pokemon hidden in the game's code, presumably event-obtained:
Diancie
Volcanion
Hoopa
Also, there are supposedly Mega Lati twins, but they look the same. Not sure what that's about.

Re: Pokemon X and Y Discussion
The Roseli Berry Floette (AZ's Floette?) would not be too surprising to see as an event Pokemon. As for Arceus, I don't see what's so special about it. Is the context that it appears in the wild?
Those three new ones are...interesting. Why would they not have been found earlier? Did no one actually look through the code, or were they hidden in a different part of the code or something?
Edit: It appears that these have been at least semi-confirmed. There are also rumors regarding Mew.
New edit: My brother found a lot of requests for them on the GTS. I guess that confirms it.
Edit 3: After a little more PO playtesting, fairies are not so bad for Scrafty. The big problem is Talonflame, which also takes Whimsicott out pretty easily. Tyranitar and Zygarde check it well, but Zygarde loses to Greninja one on one almost every time.
