Dreams of an Absolution (Dream World OU Team)

Post by Roxie on Tue Apr 24, 2012 12:35 pm

    Dreams of an Absolution

Hello Treehouse family~ I have recently made a new Dream World OU team, that is very good if I do say so myself. You all know that I absolutely without a doubt love Dream World and all of its inhabitants. Now, I've been needing to make a new team, and I got tired of making/using hail teams for a while. This team basically starts out like my last Dream World team did, but I'll get to that in a few. Now, onto the team!

    The team at first eyesight.

    The team in depth:

    (M) @ Shed Shell
    Trait: Technician
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Mach Punch
    - Bullet Seed
    - Swords Dance
    - Spore

This is how my last Dream World team started. Breloom sets up Spore, then use one or two Swords Dance then fire away with Mach Punch or Bullet Seed. With the speed Breloom has, it is normally going to use Spore first, unless said pokemon has a scarf or outclasses its speed. Giving the boost from the technician ability, Bullet Seed (with a +2 from Swords Dance) would deal a fair good amount of damage, and since it is a multiple time attacking move, it can normally OHKO or 2HKO any regular pokemon (meaning pokemon that aren't bulky with a high defense). Mach Punch with a +2 boost with technician should strike fear into Heatrans and other steel types. I chose Shed Shell to get rid of any status problems that could be inflicted onto Breloom (even if it is only once). So yeah, that's all there is to say about Breloom.

    Next up, my regal snake
    (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Contrary
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Leaf Storm
    - Leech Seed
    - Hidden Power [Rock]
    - Giga Drain

This happens to be one of my favorite Dream World pokemon. It is so scary with the Contrary ability. I couldn't find a good set for Serperior, so this is basically what I tried by ear. It worked for a bit, but I'm still not sure about it. But when I see how bad it is, I WILL change it. Serperior has absolutely amazing speed, with its moderately high special attack, Contrary with Leaf Storm makes it a threat to be dealt with. I've actually made someone not like me for a bit because of the ability (but she doesn't anymore, so that's good Razz). Leaf Storm is Serperior's STAB move due to Contrary. HP Rock is to deal with Ice types, Flying types, and Fire types. Leech Seed to give me some life back, along with Leftovers so I get a bit more back than I normally would. Giga Drain for even MORE HP back, so I think this would be a pretty okay set.

    @ Choice Scarf
    Trait: Download
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
    - U-turn
    - Ice Beam
    - Flamethrower
    - Thunderbolt

I swore to myself I would never use Genesect. However, after seeing the way others can utilize the speed and power of Genesect, I decided I would give him a try. After using him, I've seen what others have seen when they use him. It has amazing Speed and amazing Special Attack. With Download, and the opposing pokemon's ability, I might even get more Special attack. U-turn is to gain momentum against my opponent, Ice Beam for grass and flying types. Thunderbolt for getting rid of Flying and water types. Flamethrower is to get rid of steel types, ice types, grass, and bug types. I think that Genesect is an amazing pokemon for this team, considering its amazing skill and power. Since it is choiced, it is a bit harder to fight with, but it gains amazing speed which is what I'm basically looking for in Genesect.

Now for the Chandelier I own~
    (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Shadow Tag
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Calm Mind
    - Substitute
    - Flamethrower
    - Shadow Ball

This pokemon I kept thinking was uber in either Wifi or Dream World. Probably because it was at one point? I don't know. But now that I know for a fact that it is legal in Dream World OU, I'm going to use it the very best I can. It may have slow speed, but what it lacks in speed, it makes up in ability and Special Attack. I can use Shadow Tag to trap an opposing pokemon, then use Calm Mind to set up (which at +6 it is over 1100 Special attack and somewhere in the 800 in Special Defense). Following that, I can use either Flamethrower or Shadow Ball depending on what the opposing pokemon's typing is. Since Shadow Ball would be the STAB which would be a better choice of move against any pokemon. (ALSO: Thank you Kira Light for this amazing Chandelure set.)

    Time for an Informal Pony
    @ Leftovers
    Trait: Justified
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Secret Sword
    - Calm Mind
    - Hydro Pump
    - Hidden Power [Ghost]

This pony is something the one of three horses I will ever love (the other two being a Pegasus named BlackJack and the other being the horse from Son of Neptune). I love it's special attack and speed. It has amazing power, sadly, it won't be in Dream World for long D: I'm going to miss this pony. Calm Mind is to set up the Special Attack and its Special Defense, which when added to its other moves would be very very scary. Secret Sword is Keldeo's STAB/Special move. It is also used to take out steel types, and dark types. Hydro Pump for its power strike, which will take out pokemon like Excadrill, and other ground types and rock types. HP Ghost to do away with Psychic type pokemon since they are a try threat against Keldeo.

    (M) @ Yache Berry
    Trait: Rough Skin
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
    - Substitute
    - Swords Dance
    - Earthquake
    - Dragon Tail

I hated Garchomp. Then when making this team, someone recommended using it, so I said why not. It's normaly ability makes it uber, but in Wifi. Which in this case, it's totally legal in Dream World. Besides, Rough Skin is a good ability. It has a lower speed than the other dragons, but it still has a well balanced speed anyway. Substitute for keeping its health from dropping against other dragon moves and ice moves. Swords Dance to raise attack, Earthquake for STAB, and Dragon Tail for coverage against other pokemon. Rough Skin does extra damage to my opponent, so that's good. When all is set and done, RoughChomp can be very dangerous.

I thank you for taking the time to read this RMT, and I hope you will give it no less. Thank you~

I don't really know anything about DW OU, but I do know that Choice Scarf, Shadow Tag Chandelure (which I believe is popular) would be able to OHKO half of your team, could hurt your own Chandelure if it were not already behind a Substitute and depending on the set could seriously threaten Keldeo too.

I was originally going to use a scarf chandy, but decided not to after kira had told me his set. The way he had told me about how his set could work, I liked it better than the scarf set.

I wasn't suggesting you use a Scarfed Chandelure. I was pointing out your major weakness to opposing Scarf Chandelure..

I figured that. I was just saying that scarf chandy was originally going to be on my team.

    Hey,

Right now, this is a solid team, but let me shift it towards a more clear direction. Now, you're all going to think I'm pulling stuff out of my ass but weather is an absolute necessity for any good Dream World team. Without weather, you're going to have an awful time battling, and I really think you need to replace some stuff for this to work better. Now, your Chandelure set isn't helping the purpose of your team much, so I suggest you swap it out for a more conventional Choice Scarf Chandelure because that lets you beat a number of threats that give your team trouble, namely Breloom, Protect Gliscor, and some others. Now, it is imperative that you use a Naive nature over a Hasty nature on Genesect, because otherwise it has a chance of being OHKOed by Breloom, one of the most powerful sweepers in existence. Garchomp benefits much more from using Dragon Claw over Dragon Tail, because phazing won't do you much good in a tier dominated by offensive prowess. If you want, you can also go fully offensive with 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe and Outrage instead of Dragon Claw / Dragon Tail, but that's an optional change. I also highly recommend using Leftovers so that your Substitute does not go to waste, as that is effectively the reason to SubSD Garchomp without Salac Berry. Finally, Serperior may seem cool, but it's really garbage in OU. I suggest replacing it with a Tyranitar, probably something such as Tyranitar @ Leftovers with 252 HP / 60 Atk / 196 SpD / 4 Spe and a Sassy nature. The moves would Stealth Rock, Pursuit, Fire Blast, and Ice Beam. Pursuit is essential, as it gives you your only way of combating Chandelure. Tyranitar is on 70+% of teams in the Dream World tier for a reason, and Chandelure is that reason. Stealth Rock is a must on any team, and yours is no exception. The 4 Speed EVs allow you to outspeed any opposing Tyranitar given the opportunity, and they're useful in some situations. Good luck, I hope I helped.

If you're going to use Scarf Chandelure, that means Stealth Rock will be problematic, especially since Genesect switches in a lot. I'd recommend you replace Serperior by a Physically Defensive Forretress.

    Forretress (M) @ Shed Shell
    Trait: Sturdy
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
    IVs: 0 Atk
    Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
    - Stealth Rock
    - Spikes
    - Rapid Spin
    - Gyro Ball

Forretress provides Rapid Spin support your team needs, and it brings Stealth Rock and Spikes support, which is handy on an offensive team, which eases your Pokemon's sweep. It also helps deal with opposing an Chandelure and Dragonite, who won't switch in for free. Gyro Ball is just a move to be used against stuff setting up Dragon Dances. Shed Shell lets you escape Magnezone and Shadow Tag Chandelure.

The point of the team was to escape the use of weather (since I only like hail) and to go offensive and lack defenses. Also, isn't Outrage taught by a 4th gen tutor? Or is that just for Salamence? Another thing, Garchomp with RoughSkin can't learn Dragon Claw, that's why it doesn't have it right now.

You should use Sand Veil over Rough Skin; it's a better ability overall, especially since Sandstorm is so mainstream in Dream World. It'll let you use Dragon Claw / Outrage.

However, RoughSkin can hurt the opposing pokemon and (very possibly) defeat them due to that, I will try SandStream though.

First off, Forretress is garbage in Dream World. Secondly, Chandelure doesn't mind Stealth Rock considering it's supposed to kill a Pokemon or two and then die. Also, Roxas, test the team out on the ladder. Weatherless offense doesn't work unless you use a SmashPass team, and that is not the point of yours. Also, Sand Veil is definitely the better ability. Anyways, regarding Chandelure, every single Pokemon on this team gets killed by it, and by not using Tyranitar or Politoed, you're inevitably going to be weak to it.

I will try ladderng on smogon tomorrow during school if I decide to go to 5th period. Also, how is Garchomp weak to Chandy? Same to Keldeo. And, I have had one successful non-weather dream world team, and it was pretty decent.

It's Dreams of an Absolution, for your personal info. Please, edit the OP, as soon as you read this, for your sake and mine.

    Weaknesses

@ : Shed Shell Regenerator Amoonguss is a large problem for Keldeo, Serperior, and Breloom. It has access to Clear Smog, which resets boosts, an auspicious typing that grants it resistances to their main STABs, and relatively good defenses that allow it to take a hit before resetting all stat boosts. While you may argue that Chandelure roasts Amoonguss, Shed Shell allows it to escape from Chandelure's reach and live to see another day, terrorizing your team all the more.

: SubNP Thundurus can come in on your Breloom, set up a Sub as you try to Spore it, Nasty Plot as you set up or break the Sub, and then annihilate you with Hidden Power Ice. The rest of the team members can't keep up with its Sub antics, and those that try to usually end up being KOed by Thunder (or Thunderbolt) or Hidden Power Ice. Genesect, while an excellent revenge killer, can be checked by scouting the appropriate move with Substitute. From there, Thundurus can act accordingly, or it can switch out to a trapper, along the lines of Magnezone or Chandelure. Once they've done their job of neutering Genesect, Thundurus can run through your team again.

    Nitpicks / Recommendations

: This is more of a nitpick than anything, but I'd recommend making your Chandelure a Scarfed version, so you can pick off any non-Scarfed Dragons with Hidden Power Ice and Scizor with Fire Blast / Overheat.

--> : ENTRY HAZARDS. YOUR TEAM NEEDS THEM. USE FORRETRESS. I admit that Serperior is cool if used right, but it doesn't seem to be helping your team much.

I can't say much else that everyone else has already covered. Good luck with your team.

From laddering on Smogon, I've noticed that a huge weakness to me ENTIRE team is DrizzleToad and a +1 (DD) Dragonite. Any suggestions to shorten that weakness?

Roxas, take my suggestions and you won't have a weakness. Really. I know what I'm doing. Also Dream World is mostly depending on battling ability, and not team building skills, considering the games' fast pace.

*sigh* I will try the sandstorm team. However, your EVs for the Tyranitar above are off. The only EVs accessible in the ones you said would really be: 252 HP/ 60 ATK/ 196 SpD/ 2 Speed.

I would recommend Hidden Power [Ice] over Hidden Power [Ghost] on Keldeo, since HP Ice gets better coverage, and hits Latios / Latias as hard as HP Ghost would. It also prevents you from being walled by Dragonite and Salamence.

Zeo Abyss wrote:I chose Shed Shell to get rid of any status problems that could be inflicted onto Breloom (even if it is only once).

Nitpick: Shed Shell lets you escape opponents' abilities that would prevent you from switching out. For example, if Shadow Tag Chandelure arrives, you can switch out thanks to Shed Shell, which wouldn't have been the case if you weren't holding that item.

Hidden Power Ghost is better. It hits Jellicent which completely walls Keldeo. Play the metagame before rating teams, people.

That's true, but Roxas already has Chandelure to trap and remove Jellicent from the game. Furthermore, Jellicent is only #40 in DW Usage Statistics, while Dragonite is #4. Anyways, you should follow Harsha's advice since he is the more experienced (and better!) Dream World OU player.

That is true, but Keldeo is a set up sweeper and you don't want to switch a Pokemon you've just set up with out..

Jellicent is number 11, good players are at 1350+, so the 1337 stats are what you should look at. Dragonite is KOed by Choice Scarf Chandelure and Genesect anyways, and Dragonite is under Jellicent in usage in the 1337 stats. Furthermore, Keldeo can still do decent damage with boosted Hydro Pump, so Dragonite isn't even completely in control.
