So, anyone read something intresting lately?

Post by Roxie on Thu Oct 27, 2011 9:17 pm

I've been bored out of my mind for awhile, so I got my old reading habits back. Currently, I am reading 4 books:
Book #1: Sappique by Cathrine Fisher
Book #2: Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Compplex by Eoin Colfer
Book #3: Re-reading The Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan
And Book #4: Re-reading The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

In my opinion, all of these books are great. Of course, I've always liked to read those kinds of books. Anywho, feel free to say what kind of books you like to read/currently reading.

Artemis Fowl I started reading in third grade, and though I find it childish, I can't stop reading the series. I've read them all so far. I haven't been reading many books lately due to my increased workload, but I think I'll recommend The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I received this book in school for my History class in 8th grade, and I liked it a lot. The book is very deep, and I highly recommend it.

It's a classic, but I'd recommend reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, if you can stomach reading a book with some racial slurs in it. If not, then read Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, or Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer. They're all good.

Huck Finn was interesting, but my copy had really small font. I don't know why, but books with small fonts make me less interested...

Well, I finished my last three books, I read Son of Neptune (got monday, finished Wednesday), and now I'm reading Sapphique (still), the demigod files, and the 7th Harry Potter book (last two are re-reads, demigod files about the 30th time).

There's this book called "the house of the scorpion". Yes it's not in caps and I just finished it. It's a science fiction so it is in the future. I recommend all of you read this book.

Also, if you want to see the cover it looks like this:

I remember a book I once read. It had to deal with Gravity in one book, and Bio-life in the other, though I can't remember what it was called.

Well, those were some good descriptions...

Anyways, the last book I read was John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" for English class. It wasn't a bad book, by any means. It just so happens to have some lines that I couldn't take seriously.

Ah, that's one of my favorites, Zatch. Though the ending was very sad, there were many hilarious portions of the book.

I suggest the manga Death Note. It's about a bright 17 year-old student who finds a book called the Death Note. Writing a name in it automatically kills that person from a heart attack. This student uses the book to kill criminals and create an ideal world in which only kind, intelligent and hard-working people reside. He wants to become the god of this new world.

If we're talking manga, I think you all know what's coming...

Zatch Bell! is about 14 year-old Kiyo Takamine. One day, he receives a gift from his father, a 6 year-old boy named Zatch Bell. He learns that this boy is a mamodo, or a demon from another world. Together, Kiyo must help Zatch become the king of the mamodo world by defeating other mamodo and their human partners by burning the spell books that they hold.

Good summary, yes? Very Happy However, I do not believe the entire series was released in English, as it was discontinued by some losers on June 9, 2009. Therefore, reading it online is probably a better idea, as it would be impossible to obtain the entire series in English, and just as hard to find the released books in a store.

You can read any manga on this site for free!

    http://www.mangareader.net/

However, it's not the official translation but translations made by fans who can fluently write in both Japanese and English. Thus, the reason it's free.

While on the subject of Manga: Wiern Series: Night School, and Anima+. Night School is about a little wiern (witch) named Alex Treveny who visits a school for demons in search of her mother who went missing there (It's been a while since I've read it). Anima+ well, it's about humans with a magical ability to use the powers of animals (humans with this ability are called Anima+), but in order to use the Anima+ powers, you must be born with it (Symbols will appear on the Anima+ when they are born). I haven't read either of them in a long time, so forgive my summaries in both.

I remember the above book names. It's called "Simon Bloom, The Gravity Keeper" and the other is called "Simon Bloom, The Octopus Effect". Both were extremely great books. Well, see ya after X-Mas break, hopefully. Today=last day for the semester. W00T!

If you haven't already, read Animal Farm, by George Orwell. It's short and interesting.

    Well, my school is now doing the play version of Tom Sawyer. I got the part of an old, fat, drunk (Muff Potter). Shut up ;.;
Anywho the new book I'm reading is "The Looking-Glass Wars" which is a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland. Alyss is a princess, Redd tries to take it over, yadda yadda yadda. It's a trilogy though, so Razz

Well, in case it concerns you, never read the book Pride and Prejudice. I'm reading it for school and it's the worst book that anybody could have ever made.

Pride and Prejudice, an older book, is actually one of the required readings for AP Literature and Composition (the 12th grade AP English class) in my school. So, it's inevitable. I'm reading it one day. Also, have any of you read The Great Gatsby? It's not as action-oriented as many books are, but it's one that I've enjoyed reading.

If you're into theoretical science, then The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory and The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality, both by Brian Greene, a professor at Columbia University, are excellent choices.

I'd recommend The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. It's a very interesting and complex book.
